Behind this classic fantasy story lies a metaphor and a scathing critique of the economic crisis of late 19th-century American society, namely the February 12 law, according to which currency was obsolete and only gold had value. Each hero symbolizes something different.

In the rich and intelligent text of Sebastian Perez, a light and poetic language is used, decongested from the weight and the moral element of the original text. The images of Benjamin Lacombe permeate the text with a strange atmosphere that magnetizes the reader, far removed from the element of kitsch and stew that are often associated with this story.
