The book can be used for independent, individual study of the object of the databases. The choice, the way of building, the development of the material and the many solved examples-exercises make the individual study possible and in fact quite pleasant and without much effort. But the main purpose of the book is to support higher education students in a course on database systems. This course can be considered introductory for the IT departments or complete for the other departments and schools, which include the subject of databases in their curriculum.

In the 2nd edition, I tried to maintain the introductory level of the book, knowing that everything starts from a good beginning. Databases hide behind a huge theoretical background that - in the book - is used and mentioned only when absolutely necessary. Instead, I tried to assemble, structure, and finally offer a practical design methodology - based on the corresponding theory - that could be easily understood and lead to the creation of sound databases. Version 2 also offers an in-depth look at the capabilities of the SQL language supported by many solved exercises. The two relevant chapters offer over 80 solved questions that stem from my overall teaching experience in the subject and gradually approach almost all levels of difficulty of the subject.
