The term Psychopathology or alternatively (Psychology of Deviant Behavior), refers more generally to mental illness and the study of mental disorders. It is the main subject of study mainly of psychiatrists and psychologists, although other medical specialties such as neurology or other related health professions, eg social workers, psychiatric nurses, are significantly involved with people suffering from some form of psychopathology.
Nowadays the need for comprehensive but at the same time practical clinical textbooks of psychopathology is imperative. This clinical manual fills this gap in the Greek literature, providing the basic data for deviant behavior - psychopathology..
This is a recently updated version, which follows the Diagnostic Criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - (DSM-IV-TR) (revised diagnostic criteria for mental disorders). It consists of 7 chapters covering the most common forms of psychopathology (Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Substance Disorders, Eating Disorders, Sexual Disorders and Gender Identity Disorders, Schizophrenia and Headache Disorders) a brief history of deviant behavior - psychopathology. It is enriched with authentic clinical cases analyzed based on the DSM-IV-TR classification, specific labels, and self-assessment exercises that help test the understanding of the basic concepts of each chapter.
The Greek version of the book is supplemented by an English-Greek glossary of terms related to deviant behavior-psychopathology, which I believe will help significantly in the study of relevant foreign language literature.
The book is aimed at all those who are scientifically / clinically interested in mental illness, however it may be useful even to the non-professional reader who is interested in learning more about the "phenomena of psychopathology" and distinguishing myths from reality in terms of mental illness.
